ODOR REMOVAL CONDISERATIONS FROM DEATH CLEAN UP

Bio Clean Services is frequently called to clean up after an unattended death or suicide in OH, WV, PA & MI. One of the very first questions we’re always asked is, “Can you get rid of this odor completely?”  The answer is yes however, several factors will determine the amount of time and work necessary to remediate these odors and return the scene to a clean, sanitary environment.

What we’ll need to know:

1.    Were did the death occur, and what elements are directly connected to the death scene?  For instance, did the person die in a bed, on a carpeted floor, in a bathtub or a car?  Death clean up requires decontamination of furniture, flooring, fabrics and virtually any porous surfaces related to the scene.  In certain cases, it may also be necessary to remove and replace walls, ceilings, sub-flooring and possibly insulation. Weather conditions also may affect the scene depending on temperatures and other factors.

2.    How long has it been since the death occurred? If the death was an accident, suicide or an elderly person and not discovered immediately, the cleanup process is more entailed as most likely decomposition has started. We would need to follow specific cleaning processes using chemicals, antimicrobial cleaners and ozone or neutralizing agents. Ozone is commonly used in death cleanup because of it’s quick reaction to carbon based molecules associated with death odors. It’s a highly useful tool but not a guarantee that it will completely get rid of the odor.

Bio Clean Services takes every measure possibly to safely and effectively remediate these scenes with as minimal disruption as possible. Our cleanup technicians are trained to provide our clients with the emotional support needed during these types of tasks. The unattended death of a friend or loved one is never something that anyone is prepared to handle. The emotions and questions that are brought on by this tragic event can make it difficult to determine what to do next.

Our goal is to offer clients the assurance that our work will completely restore the scene to a pre-incident condition and we are dedicated to the protection and safety of our clients. Hiring the proper cleanup company is difficult, after we analyze the scene, we provide a full plan of action and work directly with our clients through each step of the process.  Contact us today for more information about the services we offer.

Difficulties in removing odors from crime and death scenes

The removal of odors from homes and buildings is a tedious and often elusive task. Bio Clean Services is trained in odor remediation and disinfecting techniques that will eliminate any trace of odors from these types of scenes.  We are skilled at cleaning odors that arise from many sources such as disaster contaminates, blood and bodily fluids,  unattended death decomposition and others.

Most crime, trauma and death scenes contain trace elements of blood, fluids and tissues that are not seen with the human eye.  If these areas are not properly cleaned, you will have putrid odors that can last for weeks, months or in some cases even years depending on the severity of the scene.  Household cleaning solutions will not clean these areas and do not vacate the smell. They are only a temporary masking of the odors and soon as the chemicals dissipate, the odors will return.

Odor removal involves the following general principles:

• Removing the source of the odor as soon as possible. In certain instances, this may include removal of parts of the structure that are immediately affected by the source.
• Cleaning the affected surfaces and materials.  Every porous surface in the affected area must be properly cleaned and disinfected with commercial chemicals that are specifically used for this type of remediation.
• Use of counteractants to restore the area
• Sealing any surfaces that have been in contact such as flooring, porous surfaces etc; if possible

Bio Clean Services utilizes specialized chemicals and equipment to solve the odor contamination permanently by using specific solutions that chemically bond to odor molecules  in the air and on surfaces.  Our technicians have the knowledge and equipment to apply restoration techniques that return these scenes to their pre-incident condition.

If you are experiencing odors from a crime, trauma or death scene or you need specific help related to these service areas, please contact our office to learn more about the service areas we cover and our certifications.

An alarming rise in suicides of the baby boomers generation, Why?

Numerous factors attribute to the cause of suicides and a large majority would say that it can be attributed to the economic meltdown in our country.  The health and overall fitness of the baby boomer generation has deteriorated greatly and a large number of these statistics indicate that the victims

were medically ill, taking depression medication,  fighting high blood pressure, on disability and overwhelmed with credit card and other types of debt.

General consensus is that the victims life now “Isn’t what they envisioned” it would be at this age. Most of these people were in young adulthood in the 1960’s and 1970’s and that was an era that people were much more in tune with others and people helped other people.  Today, it’s a dog eat dog world motivated by money and the quest to “achieve” and the children and long time friends of the baby boomers are no exception.

The increased suicide rates are ordinarily male, elderly and alone with health and financial issues.  Because of social isolation and the feeling of being alone and abandoned, these victims take their life as they don’t see an importance in “fighting the fight” to survive in the world any longer.

Bio Clean Services gets frequent calls to provide death clean up services for families of suicide victims.  Many of the scenes we’re called to clean are unattended death scenes where no one knew that the victim had been dead for days, and in certain cases weeks to months.  We are certified in these types of cleanup jobs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia.

Contact our office today to learn more about the services that our company provides and our service areas. We perform biohazard clean up services in both commercial and residential settings with immediate technician dispatch 7 days per week.

After the Crime Scene Investigators leave, what happens?

Most people think that the same individuals investigating a crime or trauma scene are also the ones that clean up the scene once their work is complete but this is not the case.  Once police and investigators collect their evidence or emergency workers have left the scene, everything else is left behind.

Who’s responsibility is it to clean up the aftermath of these scenes? In short, the property owner is responsible for the cleanup. Any remains, medical waste, blood, tissues etc left behind must be properly cleaned up.  This is where Bio Clean Services come in.

Bio Clean Services provides professional cleaning services for Death, Trauma, Suicide, Medical Emergency and many other biohazard scenes. We are trained and experienced in the proper protocols to return your property to a before incident state. Utilizing special equipment, we are trained to discover all hidden biohazards and remediate the scene so it’s returned to a safe environment for the property owner.  These scenes contain many minute trace elements of pathogens and bacteria that cause odors, bugs and breed infections spores that can be harmful or fatal if not properly removed.  We never suggest that an untrained individual attempt to clean a scene like this because of the high potential health risks.

The use of industrial biohazard cleaning chemicals and proper tools are needed to ensure these items are removed from surfaces and the air in the property.  If an untrained individual attempts to improperly clean the scene, they also put others at risk who may come in contact with these materials and airborne pathogens.

In addition to experience and training, our staff members are also accustomed to dealing with family members and property owners during this highly emotional time. We provide professional, compassionate services and work expediently to remove hazards and restore the property to a good state. We are familiar with proper processes such as obtaining disposal permits and working with insurance companies to provide information pertaining to the claims filing process.

Contact our office immediately if you have an incident that requires clean up.  Although it may seem basic in nature, biohazards are often unnoticeable by the human eye and can still pose health threats for many months after an incident if not properly remediated.

3 common questions about biohazard cleaning

The most important thing in handling the crime scene clean up is that affected things should be cleaned in a way by which life will be danger free in future. Bio Clean Services provides  coverage in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It is imperative that one employs the help of the experienced bio hazard technicians who are certified and well trained to remove the fluid materials of body and blood or other biohazard materials.  Often there are various items such as walls, carpet, furniture, wallpaper, flooring, etc that will need to be disposed of in the red bio-hazard bags.  Disposal can usually be taken to a state-regulated and federal- regulated site. Laws do not permit the use of dumpster to dispose the items. According to the laws of federal and state, a bio-hazard clean up will need to store the records of the place where disposal is taken place and include what was disposed. It is suggested that these records be stored for 30 years. It’s also important that permits and certification information be retained for the same amount of time should they ever need to be reviewed.

Why is trauma and crime scene clean up so dangerous? The cleanup process of a scene may be easy and simple. But, clean up technicians have to be trained in how to handle materials to avoid contact with deadly diseases such as HIV, hepatitis, and other diseases that can be occurred by affection of bio-hazards. Frequently sharp items that can puncture your skin are found to be present during clean up. It’s also possible that a cleaner’s mouth and eyes can be affected accidently during the removal of biohazard items.

Why should someone call a biohazard clean up company?  When it comes to cleaning and removal from a biohazard trauma scene, family members, friends or people associated want to clean the scene themselves.  Seldom do they realize that the tasks are physically and emotionally overwhelming. Bio Clean Services is certified in the removal of biohazard items such as body fluids, decomposing bodies, human tissues, hypodermic needles, blood, etc.  Our technicians are fully trained and certified in the removal of these materials and have been specifically trained to restore a scene to a better than original condition. Utilizing a trained professional company like Bio Clean Services enables you to avoid the emotional distress of the work. Anyone attempting to clean a biohazard scene may also run the risk of certain liabilities should someone cleaning become exposed to harmful items and substances.

Who pays for biohazard and crime scene clean up? Depending on the circumstances and where the incident occurs, ordinarily the insurance company pays for the cleanup. Every insurance carrier is different and certain restrictions may apply.  Anyone having to hire a professional clean up company should contact the insurance company to review these limitations; if any.

Lonely Death Becomes More Popular in America

Over the past few years death scene clean up companies have noticed a steady increase in calls requesting clean up of unattended death scenes.  Some time ago the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research indicated that by the year 2030 nearly 40 percent of all households in the United States would be single-person households.  With these numbers rapidly increasing it’s only natural that the number of unattended deaths would be on the rise.

Bio Clean Services provides clean up and decontamination services at these types of death scenes as well as trauma, suicide, accident scenes and more. Requests for our services generally come from immediate family members or close relatives. It’s common that these corpse are not discovered for weeks or sometimes months after the death has occurred.  It’s also not uncommon for us to receive requests from landlords and property managers as many of these individuals die with no children or family.

We offer professional clean up services in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia. Our technicians are very compassionate with the families of the deceased.  The emotional toil is generally much higher in a situation like this because the family members had no knowledge of the passing and a certain element of guilt is involved.  We are accustomed to working in a manner to help facilitate a quick clean up and restoration and assist the family members or property owners with the necessary procedures that must be followed before and after the remediation.  The protocol for clean up can vary depending on the amount of damage and the length of time that the body has been unattended.
Several of the requests we receive are also from care managers, helpers or sometimes municipalities asking for help cleaning the dwellings of elderly people who live alone. These individuals usually have huge garbage accumulations. Many of these individuals were men in their 50’s or 60’s with no job or real family to speak of.

Bio Clean Services also provides clean up services in homes of people who have died in facilities, but left their home unattended, full of garbage and have generally unsanitary living conditions.  This is common with the elderly and given the unknown circumstances, it is advised that individuals not attempt to clean these areas.  These scenes are usually tremendous breeding grounds for biohazards and must be professionally cleaned and decontaminated for the safety of family or property owners.
If you, or someone you know, are in need of our services please contact us immediately. Bio Clean Services offers 24 hour and emergency dispatch in our service areas.
