Choosing the right Biohazard Cleaning Company

Having been in the Crime Scene and biohazard clean up industry for over a decade, Bio Clean Services has performed cleanup at hundreds of Crime, Trauma, Death & Suicide scenes. Surprisingly, several of the jobs we’ve performed were as a result of non-reputable cleaning companies who did not follow proper protocols and techniques when cleaning these scenes.

If crime, trauma, suicide and other biohazard scenes are not properly cleaned, weeks, months, and even a year later clients have reported horrible odors, infestations of bugs, stains and other problems that all stem from the fact that the original cleaning company did not properly remediate.  Always hire a professional biohazard cleanup company like Bio Clean Services.

How do you know if you are hiring a legitimate clean up company?  Here are a few tips:

1.    Work with a reputable provider – Usually law enforcement officials have a point of contact for a local company that can provide quality services.

2.    Research multiple companies – There are tons of cleaning companies out there, but you need to make sure the company you choose is certified in biohazard clean up and disposal. In most cases local companies offer better rates and do a better job.

3.    Discuss with your insurance company –Call your insurance company immediately to inquire about coverage. Your homeowners insurance may cover all or part of your cleaning service, while you may not be able to immediately find out exactly what the coverage is, you can ask if this is a covered loss. You have the right to choose any company you prefer if this is a covered loss.

4.    If your loss is not covered by insurance, speak directly with your clean up company to learn costs, procedures and payment arrangements.

Not all companies are the same. Bio Clean Services is certified and experienced in all facets of biohazard cleanup from Death, Trauma, Suicide and Crime scenes. Building a reputation in the biohazard clean up industry takes hard work, dedication and it’s not something that just anyone can do.  Bio Clean Services has provided these professional, compassionate services for over a decade throughout the  northeastern United States.  We’ve worked on hundreds of jobs in these fields and some even relating to meth labs, hoarding, animals, gross filth and negligence and more. Contact our office immediately if you have a situation that requires this type of cleaning.  Never attempt to clean these scenes on your own. It will put your health and the health of others at a much greater risk.

5 important steps to take immediately after a biohazard incident

You never know when you will be the subject of an incident related to crime, trauma, death, blood or other biohazard endangerment. For most of us, we go about our everyday life not giving thought to the possibilities of the “What If’s” actually happening.

Bio Clean Services provides cleanup and decontamination of biohazard sites such as these every day. All across the country hundreds of people, many just like you, are faced with the responsibility of cleanup of biohazard sites. From auto accidents, to medical emergencies to deaths or suicides, our team of trained experts are here to assist you with the cleanup and remediation of biohazard scenes.  The following are 5 important steps that should be taken if you are faced with a biohazard situation:

1. Never attempt to clean the site on your own.  Biohazard scenes could contain potentially deadly microorganisms that could compromise your health. Seal off the immediate area as much as possible to avoid anyone having contact.

2. Call a certified biohazard cleanup company. If possible, always select a local company like Bio Clean Services.  Local companies are most likely independently owned and offer better services than a company located hours away.

3. Remove all persons from the affected area including pets. The less the affected area is disturbed, the easier cleanup can be and there is less chance of transmission of any diseases that may be present.

4. If you are not the property owner, contact the property owner immediately. Property owners may carry special insurances that will assist in the cost of biohazard cleanup.  If not, it may still be the residents responsibility for cleanup but the property owner must be notified as the biohazard cleanup company will have to have their authorization to enter the property and perform services.

5. Allow the cleanup company to do their job. In many cases, biohazard scenes involve some form of trauma. It is usually and extremely emotional time for the victims family members or friends. Keeping people away from the scene lessens the trauma of the situation and allows workers to perform their tasks safely and effectively.  There may be a need to remove personal items and effect from the scene. If you are the responsible party, you’ll have to realize that some items cannot be decontaminated and the only way to ensure a safe clean up is to remove the items from the scene. You cannot have any emotional attachment to items that must be removed. For your safety and preservation of your health, these items must be disposed of following strict biohazard disposal protocols. Again, if you restrict access to the scene, you are less likely to have emotional struggles over items that bust be disposed of.

Every biohazard scene requiring cleanup is different, some scene are more dangerous than others and the determination of types of cleanup needed should be left to trained professionals.  If you or someone you know experiences a biohazard situation, call our office immediately at 1-800-901-2988 for assistance.

Property owners unaware of dangerous biohazards

Over the past decade the failing real estate market has ruined many homeowners across the country.  With the market decline and unemployment being at an all time high, there has also been a significant increase in the amount of illegal drug activity in our country.

Homeowners have been forced to relinquish their homes to the bank or mortgage company due to inability to make payments. Some homeowners elected to rent out their properties to individuals to cover the cost of the mortgage in an attempt to not face the financial devastation.  What these homeowners turned landlords didn’t expect was the dangerous rise in drug activities that turned may ordinary residential properties into full blow meth labs and illegal drug houses.

Bio Clean Services is experienced in the clean up, removal and remediation of these types of drug scenes. Not only is this type of activity illegal, there are extreme dangers to the health of anyone who comes in contact with these homes. The manufacturing of these substances ( or cooking as it’s sometimes called ) are not only hazardous to the health of the occupants, but animals, residents in the immediate surrounding areas and even the clean up personnel that have to restore these scenes to a safe environment.  The chemicals and methods used to manufacture these types of drugs are extremely flammable and one small explosion can blast through walls causing destruction to anything in it’s path.

Clean up of these biohazard substances and chemicals should never be attempted by an untrained individual. Bio Clean Services is certified in the removal and disposal process associated with these biohazards.  Our technicians are specifically trained to clean and disinfect all areas that have been affected by the chemicals, residue and paraphernalia that always remain in these homes.  We work closely with authorities and property owners to ensure that these homes are returned to a safe environment for the owner, surrounding neighbors and anyone who may come in contact with the property after our work is done.

Due to the severity of these types of chemicals and substances, it’s often necessary for our technicians to remove materials from the structure such as plumbing, flooring, walls and other items and dispose of the materials properly. We work directly with our contractors to ensure that these homes are restored to a pre-incident, safe condition.

If you own or manage a property that has been condemned because of illegal drug manufacturing or activity, please contact our office today for assistance.  We offer 24 hour dispatch and are able to respond immediately to help you ensure the safety of anyone affected by these incidents.

Suicide Increases with Summertime Depression

As summer rolls into full force most people are busy having fun, planning vacations and family events. Most don’t realize that SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) haunts thousands of Americans. Summer months typically show a sharp increase in suicides all across America.

Bio Clean Services provides cleanup services for death, suicide, trauma, crime and many other biohazard incidents all across the country. Specifically with suicides, the trauma scenes left behind are often gruesome and require the expert skills of a professional biohazard cleaning and removal company like Bio Clean Services. Because of the dangerous and sometimes fatal pathogens, bodily fluids and other matter that remain after a victim’s body has been removed, these scenes require immediate cleanup to avoid infections and other health related causes that are a result of poor cleanup techniques or accidental exposures.

We suggest that individuals never attempt to clean a scene without the assistance of a professional. Industrial chemicals and special equipment will be required to remediate and decontaminate the scene and with severe trauma scenes reconstruction of a property is sometimes necessary. Failure to properly clean these types of scenes can put the property owner in a liable state if someone contracts an infection, disease or dies as a result of the improper clean up. These harmful pathogens can linger where the event occurred for weeks and even months afterward. Improper cleaning can also cause horrible odors that can only be masked with normal household cleaners and may require more extensive reconstruction if not immediately disinfected.

Bio Clean Services provides these services for residential and commercial clients all across Florida. We provide 24 hour emergency dispatch and are experienced in working with investigators and crime scene experts to help restore your property to a hazard free, safe environment.

If you are faced with the task of having to clean up after a suicide or other traumatic death incident, contact our office immediately so we may assist you in the proper cleanup protocol. Stiff penalties are imposed on individuals every day who do not follow the State and local protocol for cleanup and removal of biohazard materials and waste.

Ordinary or Biohazard Waste? What you should know

Most people recognize that there are proper procedures that must be followed in transporting and discarding of medical waste.  Occasionally there are some that either choose to ignore the procedures or are simply not educated on the disposal process and don’t realize they are doing anything wrong.

Bio Clean Services provides commercial and residential cleanup services for death, crime, trauma, suicide and other biohazard incidents. Almost every clean up job that we perform contains biohazard waste that much be properly contained, transported and disposed of.  Regulations for biohazard protocols vary by state and can carry sever fines and penalties if not followed.

What you see in this article image is never the proper way to dispose of biohazard waste. Luckily, in this instance, these bags contain regular trash and paper from an office. You should never use biohazard waste bags as normal trash bags.  Red bags marked with a biohazard emblem found like this should be reported to the local health authorities who will investigate to determine who is responsible for the improper disposal and what type of biohazards they actually are.

Biomedical waste is any liquid or solid waste that may present a threat of infection to humans. Liquid waste includes blood and other body fluids from humans. Solid waste includes clothing, towels, rags, sheets, gloves, plastic bags, or any objects soiled with blood, or other body fluids. When biohazard waste is improperly managed , it places sanitation workers and the general public at risk for contracting dangerous diseases. We take every precaution and are certified in the handling, transporting and disposal of biohazard waste.  We always suggest that you never attempt to clean these types of scenes yourself as there are very high chances that these scenes contain blood and other pathogens that can be extremely harmful if you come in contact with them.  Most state regulations suggest that you contact a biohazard clean up provider like Bio Clean Services to assist you.

If you see disposal like the one pictured above, or suspect that someone is illegally disposing biohazard materials, we urge you to contact your local health agency (health department) or contact our office to report it.  If this type of disposal process continues, you may be placing your health and the health of others in jeopardy.

Methamphetamine Labs – The True Hazards

Methamphetamine labs are more than just dangerous and illegal biohazard scenes. They always leave a dangerous mess and huge environmental hazards that must be cleaned up. Bio Clean Services offers meth lab clean up in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.  This growing epidemic is huge and can be found anywhere from multi-million dollar homes in metropolitan areas to the most remote rural areas you can get to.

Many of the areas we service are ranked among the highest meth lab production states in the nation. The rate of seizures in meth labs has grown tremendously over the past 3 years and is continuing to steadily rise.

The growth of meth lab popularity may be attributed to the ease of “cooking” the dangerous and highly addictive drugs. Anyone can use pseudoephedrine, household chemicals and a plastic soda bottle to produce the drug. The problems lie in the hazards associated with the drug cooking. These methods can cause explosions that can blow holes through walls, start fires and contaminate large areas.

Bio Clean Services is professionally trained in the clean up and removal of these bio hazards. Our services, when performed, remediate an area to a safe, disinfected state with any trace of the drugs existence eliminated. Some meth houses may not need the entire residence decontaminated, just certain rooms or areas where levels of certain toxins exceed state law. We assess the areas and a cleanup plan is crafted. Any porous materials, such as carpet, must be removed. Decontaminant is applied. When the cleanup is completed, another test is conducted to make sure the levels are acceptable to what regulations consider safe.

Certain states have funds set aside for the cleanup of these scenes however, depending on the state, the cleanup cost may be the responsibility of the property owner. Contact us today for more information about these and other services we provide.
